9-311 (7/11/22) -- Mealtime Catch Up

I made a midday trip to the bank in misty rain. Whe I went to the post office in mid-afternoon, a light rain fell. There was a bit of wind but it was warm -- not hot but warmer than expected at this time of year. I had two great phone chats with friends today. I enjoyed catching up and discussing the state of the world <smile>.

My stomach hasn't recognized that the time changed on the weekend. At 4 PM, I was thinking I needed supper. So, I started cooking so things would be ready closer to 5:30 today. I turned on the MP3 player with the external speaker and commenced food prep. I made a batch of onions and peppers, which will do for the next couple of meals. Tonight these went with the Asian chicken burger that I'd prepared a while back and placed in the freezer. For a starch side, I made perogies -- well I cooked the frozen ones I purchased <grin>. These were topped by a mushroom and onion mixture and plain yogurt. While waiting for things to cook, I made a batch of oatmeal topping for fruit crisp. I like to keep this in the fridge so I can make a dessert for one quickly. Tonight, I made two individual apple and pear crisps. Generally, these have cranberries in them, but not tonight. There was no clear theme for supper but it was a great mix of different cultural food styles. Definitely yummy.

I realized while cooking that the sun had set and it was fully dark by 5 PM. That seemed so strange, but we are at that time of year again. Daylight will begin to increase in about 6 weeks. The song of the day definitely looks at suppertime from a different angle <smirk> Keep safe. Enjoy!
