9-194 (13/7/22) -- Unknown Allergy

Today was sunny and much warmer than the past few days. It came with the added bonus of major humidity. <sigh> It is the kind of day to hide indoors. So, I had a phone meeting and a did some chores.

When clearing up from lunch, the furry one came into kitchen with a swollen right side of his face -- likely a bug bite or sting in the mouth. I called the vet and was told no one could see us today and that I should try for Saturday! Really? I re-explained the situation and was then told to give him an antihistamine. How much? After being on hold the person came back with a number that is over half a tablet. I erred on the low side and gave something closer to 1/3 tablet. That process involved a major struggle. He spit it out twice but seemed to swallow it on the third try. <sigh> He calmed a bit after 20 minutes or so. It took a couple of hours before he slept some. Swelling is still visible, but not as much as earlier. So, the med seemed to help somewhat. I'm hoping things will continue in this vein.

The challenge of dealing with an unknown allergy brought to mind all of the things that can cause allergic responses. The song shared today notes the plethora of culprits and reactions. Keep safe. Enjoy!
